Platinum powers ahead, gaining ground behind silver!

Platinum powers ahead, gaining ground behind silver!

Believe it or not, platinum is rapidly catching up to silver in terms of price. Could platinum be closing in on gold next? That seems unlikely, but the metal is making a strong effort and continuing its steady climb.
According to Bloomberg, silver extended its rally at the end of last week and is now trading at a 13-year high, while platinum reached its highest level in over two years. This points to growing investor interest in industrially valuable precious metals, namely silver and platinum.
It is worth recalling that silver is widely used in solar panels, while platinum plays a critical role in engine catalysts and laboratory equipment. In 2025, both markets could face shortages after several years of demand outpacing supply.
On Friday, June 6, the spot price of silver jumped as much as 4.5% following recent gains. Platinum also continued its rally, rising by 1.7%.
The technical momentum is being reinforced by improving fundamentals. According to Nicky Shiels, head of metals strategy at MKS PAMP SA, silver demand remains strong in India, while interest in platinum is picking up again in China.
Gold, seen as a safe haven during geopolitical uncertainty, rose more than 40% last year. The surge was driven by the escalation of the tariff war initiated by US President Donald Trump and aggressive central bank buying. Meanwhile, silver (+19%) and platinum (+13%) lagged slightly behind, as their prices are more closely tied to swings in industrial demand.
Shiels believes that if silver holds above $35 per ounce, it could mark a critical inflection point and boost retail interest. A rise in platinum ETFs, along with inflows into silver-backed funds, could trigger a broader rally.
As for gold, it continues to serve as a geopolitical hedge. With a 40% gain last year, it outpaced its industrial counterparts, once again benefiting from the Trump-driven tariff storm and global central bank accumulation.
