China warns: no winners in trade war with US
Chinese authorities are showing remarkable restraint, calling on the United States to seek compromise and engage in mutually beneficial trade. According to He Lifeng, Vice Premier of the State Council of China, the essence of the trade and economic relationship between Washington and Beijing is mutual benefit and shared gains.
China favors economic cooperation with the US and has no desire to enter a trade war, though it is not afraid of confrontation if necessary, He Lifeng emphasized, representing the Chinese side in the ongoing trade negotiations with Washington.
He Lifeng emphasized that cooperation between China and the United States would bring mutual benefits, while conflict would result in losses for both sides. He pointed out that there are no winners in a trade war, adding that although China does not seek confrontation, it is prepared to respond if necessary.
The latest round of trade and economic consultations between the two nations took place from June 9 to 10 in London. The Chinese delegation was led by Vice Premier He Lifeng, while the American side included Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and US Trade Representative Jameson Greer.
In He Lifeng’s view, both countries should resolve their differences through equal dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation. He has stressed that China is sincere and principled in its talks with the US. He has also urged Washington to promote the stable and long-term development of trade and economic relations to help foster global economic prosperity.
The framework for US-China trade consultations was established following negotiations held in Geneva from May 10 to 11, during which both sides agreed to partially ease the reciprocal tariffs that had surpassed 100% by May.
