Trump ultimatum prompts Germany to unlock emergency fuel stocks as G7 frees 100m barrels

Germany will draw down its strategic reserves and put up to 15 million barrels of oil and refined products into the market, the economy ministry said, as part of a G7-coordinated release of 100 million barrels of emergency fuel.
Berlin acted under heavy pressure from Washington. The Trump administration gave the EU an ultimatum: either European countries voluntarily cut their emergency diesel stocks or the United States will impose a blanket ban on US fuel exports.
Economy Minister Katarina Reiche assured that Germany will fully and compliantly meet its G7 quota. Refined products—diesel and fuel oil—will be released from storage first, followed by crude oil. As the minister put it, a single barrel of crude is not enough on its own. Thus, German refineries remain the principal guarantor of the country’s energy resilience.
