US–EU trade deal marks positive step with far-reaching effect

Major developments are unfolding between the United States and the European Union. US President Donald Trump could not ignore the pivotal trade agreement reached between the two sides. He emphasized that they had achieved a landmark trade deal. Quite the announcement! But what makes this deal significant? It turns out that the agreement includes a 15% tariff on EU goods entering the US.
According to analysts, the current deal also envisions substantial purchases by the European Union of American energy resources and military equipment, along with large-scale investments in the US economy. However, the question remains—can Europe shoulder such a financial burden?
President Trump stated that EU leaders had committed to purchasing $750 billion worth of US energy. In addition, eurozone countries agreed to invest $600 billion in the United States. The US president emphasized that European leaders had expressed a willingness to open their markets to trade without tariffs.
Later, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, confirmed that the agreement includes 15% tariffs across all sectors. The measure is expected to restore balance in trade relations between the two economic powers.
This development somewhat calmed market fears, which had escalated after Trump’s sweeping tariff plans were announced. EU countries were at risk of facing up to 30% in duties, but that scenario was avoided. Still, one key issue remains unresolved: tariffs on pharmaceutical products. Previously, the US president had threatened to impose tariffs as high as 200% on EU-sourced medicines. If implemented, such a policy could severely damage the region’s pharmaceutical industry.
For now, the threat appears to have passed, although no final decision has been made. Both Washington and Brussels have remained silent on the current status of these pharmaceutical tariffs. The hope is that the situation will be resolved peacefully and in a way that benefits both sides.
