Wellgistics rolls out XRP ledger payments for thousands of US pharmacies

Just imagine thousands of pharmacies across America are about to receive a brand-new payment solution! There is hope that this move will truly benefit the US pharmaceutical market.
Wellgistics, a company whose network includes more than 6,500 pharmacies and 200 manufacturers, has become one of the first healthcare organizations in the United States to launch a payment solution built on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). For reference, XRPL is an open-source blockchain supported by Ripple Labs.
According to Brian Norton, CEO of Wellgistics, the response from pharmacy owners has been far stronger than expected. “Independent pharmacy owners are far more forward-thinking than many realize. They see the power of blockchain and understand how transformative this will be as it scales across the industry. Our mission is to give pharmacies greater control, speed, and transparency in their financial operations,” the executive emphasized.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether pharmacies will need to hold XRP directly or use fiat-to-XRP conversion for settlements. Developers of the system stress that it includes strict compliance measures, including anti-money-laundering protocols.
Looking ahead, the company plans to expand beyond pharmacy payments. Pharmaceutical manufacturers are expected to join the project, which could pave the way for testing direct-to-patient drug delivery programs — both directly from manufacturers and under physician supervision.
Company leadership stated that the current strategy is aimed at building programmable liquidity and infrastructure across the broader network of medical institutions.
Founded in 2016, Wellgistics was acquired by Danam Health in 2024. Earlier this year, following its February IPO, the firm became an independent company.
Today, Wellgistics provides US pharmacies with wholesale distribution, prescription routing, and AI-powered hub services nationwide.
