American companies call on Trump to soften Russia sanctions and remove investment bans

Important news: US businesses are asking President Donald Trump to lift the investment ban on Russia and remove sanctions on certain banks. What a development!
According to Robert Agee, head of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia (AmCham Russia), US businesses have requested that the White House ease some sanctions on Russia.
He noted that entrepreneurs are most interested in removing the ban on new investments in Russia and lifting restrictions on working with certain banks. In addition, businesses need permission to purchase goods in the energy, aviation, and high-tech sectors, as well as luxury items and cosmetics.
Agee emphasized that they had prepared an analytical document, referred to as a White Paper, which outlines the sanctions negatively impacting American companies that remain in Russia, as well as those that were compelled to leave due to US and EU sanctions.
The Chamber chief stressed that the restrictions mainly harm foreign businesses still operating in Russia. He also pointed out that the Russian economy has adapted to the sanctions. However, many US companies are unable to conduct business in Russia due to direct restrictions, even though many wish to return. Agee added that direct business losses following the exit from Russia amounted to about $100 billion, but if lost market share, missed profits, and other factors were taken into account, the figure would be closer to $300 billion.
He previously noted that major American firms operating in IT and energy would like to return to Russia. Furthermore, more than 20% of the companies that left Russia retained the option to buy back their assets. However, these agreements expire in 2026–2027. To return, businesses will need to meet several conditions, the most significant being the resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the lifting of sanctions.
