Students are opposed to the tuition fees increase in the University of Cape Town. On 4 October the mass protest action was held at the square in front of the University.

The student's rebellion, which lasts from the end of September, led to the closure of half of the country's universities indefinitely.

Shirona Patel, university's representative, claimed that in relation to uncontrollable aggression against their employees, they had no choice but to made the police guard the campus around the perimeter.

According to recent data, ten students and three policemen were taken to the Cape Town's hospitals.

For many black students this tuition fee is exorbitant, that's why the discrimination issue is discussed again.

President of South Africa Jacob Zuma has previously argued that all government forces aimed at solving the problem of access to education, but at the moment the government is not able to make the free education available.

Material losses from students' protests, according to preliminary estimates, amounted to $45 million. J. Zuma noted that these funds could be used to finance education, and will now be aimed at eliminating the consequences of the protests.
