Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron held a bilateral meeting at the Grand Trianon palace in Versailles on May 29.
Macron invited Putin to participate in the inauguration of a major exhibition celebrating the 300th anniversary of Peter the Great's diplomatic visit to France in 1717.

I have made it very clear to President Putin as to what France expects on this issue, and we agreed to regularly monitor the situation together," Macron said at a press conference following his negotiations with Putin.
The Russian president told him that he "has repeatedly taken measures concerning the LGBT community in Chechnya to find the whole truth about what's happening, work with the local government and settle this delicate situation," he said.
"It was the first exchange of views, and, I believe, it turned out very open, frank. We have said many things to each other. I expressed my opinion on a number of situations," Macron said at a press conference following negotiations with Putin on Monday.
According to the Russian President, the sanctions imposed on Russia will not help in overcoming the conflict in the southeast of Ukraine. He appealed to the representatives of the French media, urging them to fight for the abolition of any restrictions in the world economy.
Macron said he never believed that one needs to comment on "some issues related to thermodynamics or personal chemistry" in politics, replying to a reporter's question on possible warming of the climate between Russia and France.
