The blast at Sabiha Gökçen, the city’s second airport, occurred shortly after 2am fatally wounding a cleaner on one of its planes.
No passengers were in the area at the time of the airport blast. However, there is still a possibility of a terror attack. The local mass media supposes that the blast could be organized by terrorists. Police declined to comment, while the airport said investigations into the cause of the blast were ongoing.
The normal flight operations are resumed. However, police has strengthened the security measures on the territory of the airport. Tight security controls are also imposed at entrances to the main Ataturk airport. Police is checking cars entering the airports.
