Malaysia's industrial output growth accelerated in March, largely on the back of a recovery in the mining sector, figures from the Department of Statistics showed on Thursday.

Industrial production climbed 3.2 percent year-over-year in March, faster than the 1.5 percent increase in the previous month. Production has been rising since January 2024.

Among sectors, mining activity grew 1.9 percent annually in March, reversing an 8.9 percent decline in February. Manufacturing production advanced at a slower pace of 4.0 percent versus 4.8 percent a month ago, while electricity output continued to decrease by 2.7 percent.

On a monthly basis, industrial output rebounded sharply by 9.3 percent in March, following a 6.8 percent decrease in the prior month.
